As coordinator of the research center Centro de Matemática da Universidade do Porto (CMUP), I am responsible for the project PEst-C/MAT/UI00144./2011, since March 2013.

I have been responsible for the FCT project Automata, Semigroups and Applications (ASA); 2006 – 2010.

Various conferences have been organized within the framework of this project. The International Conference on Semigroups and related topics (Porto, July 6 – 11, 2009) has been a major conference in the area. The Issue 7 of Volume 21 of the International Journal of Algebra ad Computation has been dedicated to it.
