I have been coordinator of the research center Centro de Matemática da Universidade do Porto (CMUP) from March 2013 to February 2017. As such, I have been responsible for the strategic project PEst-C/MAT/UI00144 from March 2013 to December 2015 and for the project UID/MAT/00144/2013 from January 2015 to February 2017.

I have been responsible for the FCT project Automata, Semigroups and Applications (ASA); 2006 – 2010.
Various conferences have been organized within the framework of the ASA project. The International Conference on Semigroups and related topics (Porto, July 6 – 11, 2009) has been a major conference in the area. The Issue 7 of Volume 21 of the International Journal of Algebra ad Computation has been dedicated to it.
