Predoctoral grant in Algebraic Geometry at the University of Porto

Applications are invited for a predoctoral grant (BI) within the project Geometry of Algebraic Varieties (PTDC/MAT-GEO/2823/2014) funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Portugal).

Applicants must hold a MSc in Mathematics or in a related field with sufficient background to initiate research in one of the main research areas of the project:

Algebraic Surfaces;
Moduli spaces, especially of Higgs bundles.

The initial contract will be for 6 months, renewable for another 6 months on mutual agreement. The expected starting date is September 1, 2016 though some flexibility may be possible. The monthly salary is 980 euros (tax free). There are no compulsory teaching duties associated with this position.

The successful candidate will be based at the Centre for Mathematics of the University of Porto (Faculty of Sciences) and work under the supervision of one of the senior members of the project, Peter Gothen, Margarida Mendes Lopes, André Oliveira or Carlos Rito.
