 Celestino Soddu, born in S. Maurizio di Brunate, Como (Italy) in 1945, obtained his University Master Degree at Rome University “La Sapienza” in 1970. In the same year he passed the State Examination for Professional Architects and Engineering Register.

He teaches in Italian Universities since 1971. His teaching was about Architectural Representation, Composition and Technology. He is now professor of Architectural Generative Design at Politecnico di Milano University, Faculty of Engineering-Architecture, Italy.  His actual teaching is “Architectural Composition and Generative Design” at the 5 year Master degree of the School of Engineering-Architecture.

His peculiar topic is Generative Design, how to design software able to generate urban and architectural complex scenarios belonging to a well identified artificial DNA.

Starting from 1985 he presented his design research, advanced original software, architectural projects and generative approach (Argenia) in lectures, in International Conferences and in workshops all over the world.

In 1997 he founded and, at present, he is the director of the Generative Design Lab at the Department of Architecture and Planning of Politecnico di Milano University. The topic of this Lab is approaching the most advanced possibilities in architectural design and town identity design.

Beginning in 1998 he is the Chair and organizes, with his Generative Design Lab, the annual International Generative Art Conference: www.generativeart.com

Starting from 2002 he presented his generative projects and artworks in many personal exhibitions, the most important were at Hong Kong Museum, Visual Art Centre, MF Gallery in Los Angeles, at IDB Cultural Center in Washington DC, at Pacific Design Center, Los Angeles, at Italian Embassy in Beijing, at International Finance Center of Hong Kong and at Commerce Chamber in Milan.

Invited all over the world for lectures and consulting about the possibility to use generative approach for improving cultural traditions and identity into innovation, he recently presented his “Argenia” in Washington DC, Alexandria, New York, Los Angeles, Macau, Shanghai, Tianjin, Beijing, Trento, Tel Aviv, Milan, Venezia, Xi’an, Changsha, Hong Kong, Sao Paulo, Porto Alegre, Eindhoven, Delft, Boulder Colorado, Daugavpils, Chongqing, Delhi, Bandung.

Celestino Soddu published many books in Italian and English in the last 30 years. More, he wrote hundreds of articles and papers in Italian, English and Chinese.  Video interviews and programs for international televisions were realized about his architectural research activity in Italy, China, US and Spain.
