Jorge Almeida's Annual Report
Year:
Brief description of the research activities:
In general, the work developed dealt with the theory of finite semigroups and their pseudovarieties. Particular problems addressed, in collaboration with several other researchers, concern reducibility of pseudovarieties with respect to various signatures, the relationship of this property with definability within the signature, the effective solution of the ω-inequality problem for pseudovarieties in the Straubing-Thérien-Pin hierarchy, the effective recognition in the signature ω of the closures of regular languages in the profinite topology of the ω-free semigroups in the variesties generated by R and DA, the effective recognition of pro-nilpotent group closure in the free group of regular languages.
