We consider the moduli space of rank 2 Higgs bundles on a compact Riemann surface. We then study certain involutions on the moduli space and their relation to Higgs bundles for real forms.

We will discuss the Poisson geometry of the moduli space of parabolic Higgs bundles in terms of Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids. It is joint work Johan Martens.

Theta functions in symplectic geometry

It is well known that classical theta functions arise in the geometric quantization of abelian varieties. This provides an interesting set up for studying the dependence of theta functions on the complex structure. The existence of natural unitary isomorphisms between spaces of theta functions for different complex structures is an important aspect. These questions generalize naturally to the context of non-abelian theta functions on the moduli space of semi-stable degree zero vector bundles on a curve. We will review recent work on these matters.
