Working Days on Orthogonal Polynomials, Special Functions, Integral Transforms and Applications

Venue:

DMA - FCUP, room 0.30

Date and time:

June 18, 2007

The two Working Days on Orthogonal Polynomials, Special Functions, Integral
Transforms and Applications are organized by the Analysis Area of the Centro
de Matemática da Universidade do Porto (CMUP) and will be held at
Departamento de Matemática Aplicada (DMA) of Faculdade de Ciências da
Universidade do Porto (FCUP).

This event takes place following the past two meetings held in 2003 and 2006,
that gathered PhD students and supervisors working in the field of orthogonal
polynomials, padé-approximants and linear systems. The main goal of these
meetings was to produce a balance of the on-going research.

This year, the scope of the event was broaden to other strongly related
fields, such as special functions and integral transforms bringing particular
focus to their applications in science. Hence, it aims to stimulate a higher
interaction between the debated fields and to generate a consequent
enrichment of the PhD students and researchers work. The meeting also has the
parallel purpose of raising the awareness of students and researchers who
have not worked specifically on the referred subjects, but who currently
might intend to develop studies on them.

The lectures will be given by researchers and PhD students, whose work deals
with orthogonal polynomials, special functions, integral transforms, problems
in approximation theory, padé-approximants and applications. Each lecture
will take about 20 minutes followed by a 10 minute discussion.

Main topics:
- orthogonal polynomials
- special functions
- integral transforms
- problems in approximation theory
- padé-approximants
- applications in science.
